In March 2020, when Covid  was announced to have been imported into Uganda, Prof Ogwang decided to redesign and repurpose one product which initially was for toothache and mouth hygiene for  use in covid 19 because of the strong antiviral effects of the medicinal plants extracts in it.

 

At the tail end of the year in December, two of his colleagues in the University got severe covid with one admitted in hospital and put on oxygen. He gave them the formula which he called Covidex.  In 3 days of use his colleagues greatly improved and became negative.

 

This year, Prof 's friend called Petronella called him about a colleague who was on oxygen due to covid and she requested for his help. Prof Ogwang gave her 6 bottles for  the patient to try out. No wonder that again in 3 days, the patient improved and was put off oxygen. Later tested negative and was discharged.

In May, Prof Ogwang and his team of scientists decided to study the product more and found out a compound that is scientifically proven as able to kill corona virus in laboratory test tubes. With increasing cases of covid in his country, he started getting many people calling for same solution from him.

 

After engaging the National Drug Authority  and getting the product notified as a Local Herbal Medicine for the treatment of viral infection, he began large scale production. Many Ugandans have attested to its benefits and more still continue to do so.

More tests are still being carried out as the product undergoes the recommended clinical trials to get more informed evidence.  It is suffice to note that the team of scientists have confirmed that Covidex has a natural compound that stops corona virus from multiplying.  Prof Ogwang and his team of scientists have now embarked on doing more tests to see if the active compound reaches the  blood in concentrations needed for systemic effects against the virus.
